Shameem Rafik Galea,博士,现任马来西亚应用语言学学会(MAAL)会长、马来西亚世纪大学教育、语言、心理与音乐学院教授,并任 AppliedHE™ 董事会成员;曾任第21届(2024年)国际应用语言学学会(AILA)世界大会主席。她获美国南伊利诺伊大学语言学学士、英语作为外语教学(TEFL)硕士学位,以及英国莱斯特大学应用语言学与 TESOL 博士学位。
她拥有37年卓越学术生涯,曾长期任教于马来西亚理工大学与马来西亚博特拉大学,并于2017年在博特拉大学以教授职衔荣休;此后曾任思特雅大学人文与社会科学院院长。
其研究领域包括专门用途英语、应用语言学、英语教师教育、社会语言学、话语研究、语言使用与习得,以及健康传播与管理传播等。她长期活跃于教学、科研、研究生培养、学术组织及国际合作领域,在 SSCI、AHCI 及 Scopus 收录期刊发表多篇论文,并出版多部学术著作,在应用语言学界具有广泛影响力。
Shameem Rafik Galea, PhD, is currently President of the Malaysian Association of Applied Linguistics (MAAL), Full Professor at the Faculty of Education, Languages, Psychology, and Music, SEGi University, Malaysia, and a board member of AppliedHE™. She previously served as Chair of the 21st (2024) AILA World Congress. She holds a BA in Linguistics and an MA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) from Southern Illinois University, USA, and a PhD in Applied Linguistics and TESOL from the University of Leicester, UK.
With a distinguished 37-year academic career, she served for many years at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and Universiti Putra Malaysia, and retired from the latter as Professor in 2017. She subsequently served as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Liberal Arts at UCSI University.
Her research interests include English for Specific Purposes (ESP), applied linguistics, English teacher education, sociolinguistics, discourse studies, language use and acquisition, as well as health communication and management communication. She remains highly active in teaching, research, postgraduate supervision, academic leadership, and international collaboration. She has published extensively in SSCI-, AHCI-, and Scopus-indexed journals, and has authored and contributed to numerous academic books, enjoying wide influence in the field of applied linguistics.

本讲座聚焦教师科研能力提升与AI技术运用的现实意义及其批判性思考。随着生成式人工智能的发展,AI正深刻影响英语教育中的教学设计、材料开发、课堂研究与教师专业成长。讲座将结合相关研究证据与教学经验,探讨教师对AI有用性、易用性的认知及实际应用中的挑战。报告指出,教师对AI的“准备”不仅是技术操作能力,更涉及科研素养、教学判断力、批判意识和专业自主性。讲座最后将进一步讨论如何在英语教育中推动负责任、情境适切且富有教学意义的AI应用。
This lecture focuses on the practical significance of strengthening teachers’ research capacity and the critical use of AI in education. With the rapid development of generative AI, it is increasingly reshaping instructional design, materials development, classroom research, and teacher professional growth in English language education. Drawing on relevant research evidence and teaching experience, the talk examines teachers’ perceptions of AI’s usefulness and usability, as well as the challenges they face in practice. It argues that teacher readiness for AI should be understood not only as technical competence, but also as research literacy, pedagogical judgment, critical awareness, and professional autonomy. The lecture concludes by exploring how responsible, context-sensitive, and pedagogically meaningful uses of AI can be fostered in English language education.
